Hello everyone at active soccer….
My name is Louie the lion and I love playing football and making new friends at active soccer.
I especially like learning new skills through all the fun games we play, I have also learnt the importance of been part of a team and been able to respect my coaches and friends. This has really helped me improve, not just by been a better player but a better lion as well.
I can’t wait to meet you at a camp or a School near you; I love visiting schools and having lots of fun and keeping fit, I will be helping share my experiences and fun and healthy tips with you at active soccer.
Please look back at the website soon to find out more information about what’s happening with Louie and active soccer.

Leeds Carnegie Ladies have become winners of the FA Tesco Women’s Premier League Cup for the first time in their history after a 3-1 win against Everton Ladies at Spotland, Rochdale thanks to a brace from Ellen White.
Leeds started the game brightly and were in front after just 14 minutes when Katie Holtham’s low strike from 20 yards out was enough to beat Rachel Brown in the Everton goal.
Leeds doubled their lead six minutes later when a Sue Smith corner was fumbled by Brown and White was able to head home from a yard out.
Rick Passmoor’s side should have 3-0 up when White again picked up on a loose ball but her weak shot was saved by Brown.
The best chance for Everton Ladies in the first half fell to Everton Ladies captain Fara Williams whose free kick went over the bar.
Everton started the 2nd half stronger and were back in the game just 3 minutes into the 2nd half when Natasha Dowie broke down the left wing and was able to pick out influential midfielder Fara Williams who fired past Carly Telford.
Everton dominated much of the 2nd half and came closest to equalising with 20 minutes left when Jody Handley toe-poked an effort at the back post for Telford to clear away.
With 6 minutes left, Everton threw bodies forward in the hope of an equaliser but were hit on the break when Ellen White broke, and she shot past the helpless Brown to secure the win for Leeds.

Active Soccer ambassador Sue Smith is looking to add the seasons first piece of silverware to the trophy cabinet. Playing for Leeds, Sue will be taking on Everton Ladies in the FA Premier League Cup Final at Rochdale at 7PM.

November 5th saw the inaugural staging of the Active Soccer Cup for school years 3 & 4. The 7 a-side tournament held in the afternoon and in partnership with Manorcroft United Junior Football Club was held at Cooper’s Hill Recreational Ground the home of Manorcroft United. The event designed to encourage both boys and girls to be more active and to help promote healthy eating benefitted from support from both Somerfield Stores and the local market in Staines who both donated massive portions of fruit so each child was able to receive apples, Satsuma’s and bananas when collecting their certificates and medals at the end of the tournament as well as having fresh oranges and bananas available throughout the course of the event.
The games of ten minutes were refereed by several Sports Leaders from Strodes College in Egham and it must be said that by the end of the day they had all worked extremely hard and deserve praise for their excellent attitude and professionalism in making the event a success.
Six teams took part in the group stage with Manorcroft and Thorpe Lea representing Egham, St Jude’s and St Cuthbert’s representing Englefield Green, St Paul’s representing Addlestone and St Ann’s Heath from Virginia Water all playing each other with the top 4 teams progressing to the Semi Finals. After some hotly contested group games the Semi Final line up saw Manorcroft face St Ann’s Heath and St Cuthbert’s take on St Paul’s. Both Semis’ were very close and end to end affairs which is a credit to the boys and girls from all the teams involved. Both games finished 1-0 with St Ann’s and St Cuthbert’s progressing to the final.
It has to be said that a fantastic afternoon of football culminated with a closely fought edgy final in which both teams could have won, but as the crowds watched on, the inevitable penalty shoot-out was to decide the winners. It was decided that the 7 players on the pitch at the final whistle would all get the chance to take a penalty in a slightly unorthodox seven strike penalty shoot-out. With the score at 4-3 in St Ann’s favour after 6penalties each St Cuthbert’s had to score to take St Ann’s to a pressure last kick, however it wasn’t to be and St Cuthbert’s missed to leave St Ann’s winners with a penalty to spare.
So congratulations to St Ann’s Heath on winning the first ever Active Soccer Cup held in partnership with Manorcroft United JFC and Runnymede Borough Council.
Active Soccer Woking would like to thank all the schools that took part, all the children for their excellent behaviour throughout the day, each and every one of them can be proud of their performance both on and off the pitch in representing their schools. Also a big thank you to the parents that came to support the schools, it made for a terrific atmosphere. Manorcoft United must also be thanked for the use of ground which made for an excellent setting.

The ‘Don’t X the Line’ Campaign founded by Mal Lee from Walton in Liverpool hosted a special workshop last night . Active Soccer who are in partnership with the campaign were there to support the event, Scott Wildman and Mark Whitwood were able to contribute their support and opinions to an evening that featured local parents and children from football clubs who have been filmed and reported upon by students from Edge Hill University as part of a project that aims to reduce poor behaviour at sporting events. The workshop gave participants the opportunity to review their own conduct during matches and discuss how they could improve to help make the game better.
Mark Whitwood commented ’ For children who are just starting their footballing experiences be it through practice or in competitive games to learn that, kicking balls away, ignoring referees, swearing is not accepted is great. The children at the event were contributing significantly to the workshop which showed that if they can understand the difference between right and wrong now they will not only hold onto these beliefs as they grow up but also improve parents attitudes who put to much pressure either on them as players or referees and coaches who are offering valued help within youth football. ‘
Sky Sports News were at the event and this will be featured on Sunday 1st November, also present were Radio City, Talk City and the Liverpool Echo.
Active Soccer are helping to send this message out on a weekly basis throughout the country at it soccer clubs and events. This Thursday the ‘Don’t X The Line’ will be featured at a soccer tournament that Active Soccer are running in London at Manorcroft United for 12 local primary schools.

Following the success of the April/May Active Bike Challenge from Barcelona FC to Liverpool FC for the Marina Dalglish Charity, members of the team met with Kenny Dalglish to discuss the event and hand over a cheque for £9,000 to the charity. Mark Whitwood said ’ It was fantastic to meet Kenny Dalglish and recieve his thanks and praise for what was an unbelievable achievement by the team. Cycling over 1100 miles in 9 1/2 days is even more intense than the Tour De France as there was no rest day, i don’t think Kenny could quite believe what the team had done.’ It really was a great event and to see more information please visit http://www.activebikechallenge.co.uk, and the Sefton gallery for the photo’s with Kenny Dalglish.

Active Soccer Juniors U7’s team won their second trophy of the season
yesterday.
Having already won the ‘Hightown Shield’ back in March they took part in
Forefield Rangers annual Tournament at Chesterfield High school,Crosby.
3 wins and a goalless draw in the group stages saw them top their group and
progress to the Semi Finals.
A great performance, but no goals meant that they had to endure the tension
of a nail biting penalty shoot-out.
They triumphed and sealed a second Cup Final place in only their first
season together.
And yet again they faced their local rivals Crosby Stuart F.C.
Superb passing and excellent team work meant that Active had the majority
of possession. They created most of the chances and an excellent display was
topped off with a fantastic goal.
A brilliant passing move was finished in style, meaning that Active Soccer
Juniors were winners again.
And all this was done without conceding a goal the entire day.
Head Coach Andy Hickey and Scott Wildman were delighted with the teams
performance and their behaviour throughout the day.
Andy said ‘This has topped an excellent first season for us.I can see our
team going from strength to strength in the next few seasons’
Scott added ’ We have a brilliant group of players. They are a credit to the
club and their parents.’
‘We would like to thank them all for letting us have the opportunity to
coach their children.Myself and Andy get a great deal of satisfaction in
seeing them develop as both individuals and players.’
